Opening // Closure
All my teeth fell out last night,
tired from grinding.
I want you to know
I let them.
I’ve already decided to live with the holes,
make room for the wounds,
their personalities and agendas.
I want you to know you can take me off
your family plan –
I no longer need dental
without teeth
the time I used to spend flossing
is mine again.
You Must Know
why Lot’s wife needed to look back
into the angel’s rage and brimstone,
let the rope tighten around the neck
to understand that leaving behind
takes more than salt you cry.
The way out is through the angel’s mouth,
leaning harder into the choke
until the last breath is flayed and skinned of the past:
because once a pillar you can no longer turn into a pillar
and leaving behind is only done with salt
you lick out of a wound.
