Fishnets: A Love Poem

I once heard a man say

Halloween is just an excuse for women to wear fishnets.

Well, I guess it is!

I know he meant to imply that the look is trashy

but that’s not how I see it.

If the holiday is the one day of the year

where I can be in public

in an outfit that makes me feel sexy,

and dressing that way doesn’t

make me a target,

isn’t used as an excuse

for men…

then I will embrace it.

Because fishnets make my legs look great.

They’re flexible, breathable, and strutable.

Maybe we don’t have to wait

until the end of October

to enjoy things like these.

Maybe we can get to a place

where no one will comment or judge

if I want to wear fishnets

on any other day.
